From Betty C (mom to Tallulah who is in daycare each day)...
I feel so lucky to live near Yorkie Camp. Steve and Janet have several Yorkies of their own, and at least a few other regular guests, so Tallulah always has plenty of "kids" to play with. And since they take only Yorkie-sized dogs I don't have to worry about Tallulah getting injured by bigger dogs.
I think Tallulah's housebreaking has progressed better than it would have if I left her at home during the day because she wants to do everything the "big kids" do. Plus Janet and Steve love her and she loves them right back. I think I have a much happier little dog because she goes to daycare when I go to work.
I am so lucky to have found them while planning to adopt Tallulah. Not realizing how much Yorkies need companionship, I had planned on having them provide daycare until Tallulah got used to being in my home, then taking her perhaps once a week to keep her socialized with other dogs. After seeing how happy she has been there and realizing how hard it is for her to be alone for any length of time, I think she will continue to go every day while I'm working.
And the bonus is that on the occasions when I have to travel without her, she can board and it won't be a strange experience for her. I wish everybody with an "only" Yorkie who works could have access to Yorkie Camp.
From Donna G (whose Tassie boards frequently)...
I view my dog Tassie as a member of the family...not just a pet. With that in mind, in 2010, I drove from Beverly Hills to Upland (1 hour by freeway in non-rush hour traffic) 10 times to take her to Yorkie Camp/Spa for overnight stays and had no hesitations in doing so.
Crazy you say? Well, let me put it this way....my little 4 pound dog has experienced other reputable overnight kennels where she was locked in a pen by herself for long hours except when they took her out for a little play time or walk...no mixing with other dogs and limited people contact. She comes home having lost weight, agitated, and clingy.
However, when I take her to the "Spa", beginning at the freeway off-ramp she becomes very happily excited and begins to bark in anticipation of where she is going. When we arrive in the driveway of the "Spa", she begins to go wild trying to get out of the car to run into the Yorkie Camp yard to play with all the other dogs. She literally pulls me through the gate to get in. I don't think she even notices when I leave.
That behavior plus the attention that Janet and Steve give to the details about my dog's health and well being gives me great peace of mind when I have to leave her.
I've been using Yorkie Camp/Spa for almost 3 years and the only change that would make it a better place is if it were closer to my home so I could take Tassie there for daycare as well.
From Holli & Larry (parents of Elvis who boards during their vacations)....
Janet & Steve,
You know how much Elvis means to us. You have read our email messages to him when we have to be away (and you are good enough to forward his very reassuring replies back to us).
You indulge all of our specific schedules and instructions ("dinner at 8:30am", "half a treat for good potty", "sleeps with Hammy Hamster, " likes to be called Popo"). We hate to be away from our little guy, but we know that when he's at Yorkie Camp he has a wonderful place to play and he's safe, secure, well fed, groomed, and loved, and he gets to be surrounded by Yorkies just like him (well, he's more special, of course, but you don't have to tell any of the others!).
We thank you for being our "go-to" place for Elvis his whole life. The only thing that would make Yorkie Camp better is if it wasn't 3 hours away!! But it's worth it . Thank you for taking such good care of our little one.
From Melanie S (whose Bella boards both overnight and is a daily daycare guest)...
I've had Bella in daycare for more than 3 years (while I work). I'm not sure how I would have coped without Janet and Steve.
Bella was born with a liver shunt (fairly common to this breed) and ultimately had very successful surgery. But prior to the surgery she required very tender care....being hand fed every few hours, given medication, being comforted. I couldn't have kept my job and provided that level of care...but Yorkie Camp did all that and more.
Bella's recuperation from surgery was made possible because Janet and Steve cared for her and nursed her just as though she were their own (and sometimes I think they want to steal her for their own!!).
Because of Bella's history, she's a bit needy and she gets ALL her needs met by two people that very obviously love her (including sleeping in their bed at night when she's there for an overnight stay).
What can I say? Bella loves it at Camp and I just don't know what I'd do if they weren't around.
From John & BJ (parents of Sherlock)...
Sherlock loves going to Camp but it's what Camp means to us as Sherlock's parents that matters even more.
What we value most is having such a great resource. We know that Janet has become somewhat of an expert on all things "Yorkie" so we know we can call her when we have issues (health, behavior, etc.) and know that we'll get some sound advice and help.
We've taken advantage of this "resource" more times than you can imagine since our little Sherlock has both a luxating patella and a collapsing trachea.
